Deborah (Cook) Herd, Age 74 of Pleasureville, formerly of Lexington, passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at her residence. Daughter of the late Ollie Ralph Cook, Jr. and Margaret Ann (Jennings) Cook, she was born on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 22, 1951, in Shelbyville, Kentucky. Upon graduation from high school, she furthered her education at Georgetown College, before moving on to the J. David Rosenberg School of Law at University of Kentucky, where she would graduate with her Juris Doctorate Degree. Debbie’s education was evidence of her love to read. She spent her life learning through the pages of a novel. Reading wasn’t all that she loved, Animals, particularly her cats, were a big part of Debbie’s life. Her beloved cats, Bobby Sue, Oliver and Georgie were like her children, and she cared for them with great affection. Debbie had a green thumb, enjoying her house plants, and gardening. A longtime resident of Lexington, she worked for over 20 years as a stocker at Walmart. Upon her retirement, she moved back to her hometown of Pleasureville in 2019 to be near her family. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Doug Cook.
Survivors include her three sisters, Diane “Pat” Bullock of Salvisa, Bonnie (Kenny) Gibbs of Bagdad, and Cindy Cook of Pleasureville; brother, Scott (Debbie) Cook of Frankfort; and Aunt, Vivian Landers of Waddy.
In accordance with her wishes, Debbie will be cremated and there will be no services. To honor her love for animals, memorial contributions may be made to Kentucky Animal Tales, on their website at www.kyanimaltales.org/donate. With care and professionalism, arrangements are under the direction of Beckley Funeral Home.
