Marlyn “Doug” Harrod, Age 64 of Pleasureville, passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at his residence following a long illness. Born on Thursday, February 1, 1962, he was the son of Victor Douglas and Reba Eldora (Browning) Harrod. A lifelong farmer, he followed in his father’s footsteps farming the land, raising tobacco, growing a big garden and canning colorful pickles. In his younger days, he was an avid bowler, enjoying the sport with his uncle and family. A graduate of Henry County High School in 1980, he went on to the Louisville Technical College to obtain an associates degree in drafting. He began his career with General Electric, moving to Bloomington, Indiana for a few years, before his nearly 20-year career with the Kentucky State Police as a fingerprint analyst. Doug loved to be outside, whether it was in the fields farming or on the water boating. An Aquarius at heart, he enjoyed time at Lake Monroe in Indiana and traveling to his home in Florida. Those were his happy places where he shared many wonderful memories over the years. A devoted father, he supported his son, Austin in his shooting sport successes, joining him along the way as the volunteer pistol coach for the Henry County 4-H Shooting Sports program. He is preceded in death by his mother Reba, and his mother-in-law, Ilse Dickerson.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Leslie Harrod of Pleasureville; son, Austin Douglas Harrod of Lexington; father, Victor Douglas Harrod of Pleasureville; sister, Debbie (Harrod) Owens of New Albany, Indiana; aunts, Geraldine Jennings of Eminence, LaVern Rogers (William) of Harrodsburg, and LaVon Harrod of Frankfort; sister-in-law, Cathy Mullins (Tom) of Parrish, Florida; brother-in-law, Bill Dickerson (Ellen) of Frankfort; many cousins and a host of family and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Beckley Funeral Home with Minister David Shaw officiating and Reverend Rick Downing, assisting. In accordance with Doug’s wishes he will be cremated following the service. Visitation will be from 11am until the time of service on Saturday, June 6, 2026.
