Patsy (Ethington) Brewer, Age 86 of Defoe, passed away on Monday, February 9, 2026, at The Lantern at Morning Pointe Alzheimer’s Center of Excellence, Frankfort with her devoted daughters by her side. Born on Monday, September 4, 1939, in Defoe, Kentucky, she was one of the eleven children of the late Huston Wayne and Naomi (Chisholm) Ethington. A graduate of Pleasureville High School, Patsy had a long career as a secretary throughout the state government and other agencies. Beginning in the Secretary of States Office, she spent a decade with the Department of Military Affairs and Division of Disaster and Emergency Services, before her work with FEMA and Henry County Emergency Management. Her work spurred her interest and devotion to the Henry County EMS, where she volunteered as an EMT for many years. She married Julian Ray Brewer on February 1, 1958, and together they lived a life full of love, family, and faith. For over sixty-five years they were blessed with a wonderful marriage. A devout Christian woman, she was a member of Elmburg Baptist Church. She was a longtime former member of Pleasant View Methodist Church, where she led worship and her love for singing shined. Patsy knew every word of every song, in the hymnal. She read her bible faithfully, and at one time owned and operated a Christian bookstore in Eminence. She loved the Lord and she loved her community, which was evident through her acts of kindness and generosity. Patsy, alongside her family, worked hard to rebuild and renovate Grub Ridge Community Church. When not raising a family and cooking, Patsy enjoyed sewing, gardening, doing puzzles, and playing bunco with her family. In addition to her parents, Patsy is preceded in death by her husband, Julian Ray Brewer; son, Mark K. Brewer; sisters, Elizabeth Hunt, Mary Sue Ethington, and Roselyn Ethington; brothers, Hubert Logan, Jimmy, Oscar David, and Eddie “Possum” Ethington.
She is survived by her daughters, Lori Jeannine Brewer of Louisville, and Judy Beth Brough (Sam) of Frankfort; daughter-in-law, Brenda Brewer of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Jason Brewer (Ginger) of Lexington, Aaron Brewer (Katie) of Danville, Jay Brough (Alexie) of Frankfort, Emily Adams (Nick) of Frankfort, and Julianna Brough of Frankfort; sisters, Teresa McKee (Dave) of Frankfort, and Beverly Creasy of Shelbyville; brother, Wayne Ethington of Defoe, many nieces and nephews, and a host of family.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 1 PM on Friday, February 13, 2026, at Beckley Funeral Home with Reverend Larry Rhodes Officiating. Interment will take place in Defoe Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 AM until the time of service on Friday. To honor her work restoring the church at Grub Ridge, memorial contributions may be made to Grub Ridge Community Church Fund, 881 Cedarmore Road, Pleasureville, Kentucky 40057.
