Eminence

Ricky Carter, Age 73 of Eminence, passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at his residence surrounded by his loving family, after a long battle with cancer. Born on Saturday, January 17, 1953, he was the son of the late Carroll Simpson and Earlean (Woods) Carter. Following in his father’s footsteps, he was a lifelong farmer, milking cows for several different families throughout Henry and Shelby counties. He enjoyed his work on the farm and had a passion for taking care of cows. A family man, he took care of his children and grandchildren, loving them with all his heart. When not working, Ricky was likely fishing or hunting. He loved to go fishing and his family will cherish the memories of his last days spent doing what he loved to do. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Vonnie Stader, and stepson, Troy Law.

His large blended family left to cherish his memory includes his wife of over 26 years, Kim Carter of Eminence; sons, Chris Carter (Gracie) of Port Royal, Brandon Mertz (Ada Sue) of Owenton, Christopher Carter (Jazzmyn) of Eminence, and Shawn Law of Bethlehem; daughters, Jeanie Owens (Scotty) of Eminence, Jamie Carter of Owenton, Jessica Carter (Bobby) of Waddy, Tia Henry (Robbie) of Florida, Ricki Mohalley (Matthew) of Hebron, and Angel Mertz (Ginger) of Owenton; sisters, Carrollean (Harold) Klapel of Charlestown, Indiana, Collen Carter of Carrollton, Martha Jo Case of Pendleton, Debbie Carter of Pleasureville, and Linda Carter of Eminence; brothers, David Carter (Pam) of New Castle, and Willie Carter (Hallie) of New Castle; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
