Robert Floyd Powell, Jr., Age 30 of Pleasureville, passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at his residence surrounded by his devoted family. Born on Monday, August 7, 1995, he was the beloved son of Robert Floyd “Robin” and Meleah Lynn (Riggs) Powell. Diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy at the young age of 4, Robert lived his life to the fullest extent possible, not letting his disease define who he was. He never complained and embraced the gift of each day. Whether it was his wheelchair, a tractor, or his gator, he used the wheels in his life to take him where he wanted to go. He thrived outside, where he could be free and feel the warmth of the sun. His big personality never lacked confidence as the farm and barn manager. Robert was always in charge and under control. Just as his father and grandfather, he inherited a great love and appreciation for his horses. Pulling horses brought purpose, excitement and countless friends to his life. A lifetime honorary member of the Bluegrass Pulling Association, Robert loved going to horse pulls and experienced many achievements and successes on the track. Even when his health would not allow him to attend pulls outside of the state, he never missed one, intently watching on livestream. His fellow teamsters, were more than friends, they were family. Robert was a University of Louisville Cardinals fan and watched many sporting events, cheering on whoever was the best that particular season. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Glenn Riggs, and his paternal grandmother, Sue Powell.
In addition to his parents, who lovingly dedicated their lives to taking care of Robert and ensuring he had a joy filled life, he is survived by his sister, Elizabeth Eddins (Travis) of Pleasureville; nieces and nephew, Ellie, Sawyer and Colt Eddins; maternal grandmother, Dolores “Dee” Hahn of Lexington; paternal grandfather, Ray Powell of New Castle; aunt, Tracy Turner of Lexington; uncle, Rick Powell of New Castle; and a host of extended family and friends.
A private memorial service will be held at the Sue Carroll (Norton) Powell pavilion at New Castle Cemetery with Jakob Beckley Officiating. To honor Robert’s courageous battle with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, memorial contributions may be made to Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy online at www.ParentProjectMD.org or by mail at 1012 14th Street, NW, Suite 500, Washington, DC 20005. With Care and Professionalism, arrangements are under the direction of Beckley Funeral Home.
